How we make money

OpenMyBiz by State is free to use. To keep it that way, the site may earn money from:

• Referral links to services some business owners use, such as payroll, business formation, registered agents, insurance, sales tax software and training courses.
• Ads, which may be shown by ad networks such as Google AdSense.

Our rules

• The free official option comes first. Every step links to the government page where you can do it yourself, usually for free or only the state fee. A paid service is shown only as an optional alternative.
• Labeled. Referral links are marked as partner or referral links where they appear.
• No paid placement in the checklist. Partners can't pay to add, remove or change any requirement, step or fact.
• Ads are separate from the checklist content, and we don't choose or endorse the specific ads shown.

You don't need a paid service

You can open a business in every state without hiring anyone. Paid services save time, but they file the same state forms linked on this site. Compare prices and read the terms before you buy.
